In an official ranking released in December, Golfweek names both the Dunes and the Pines courses on its Top 100 Best Resort Courses in the US list. The Dunes course received a ranking of #26, and the Pines placed at #80.
To select the best courses, they are surveyed and rated by over 850 of Golfweek’s elite course raters and are subject to rigorous standards. A few of the nation’s classic graced the list, including Pebble Beach, TPC Sawgrass and Harbour Town.
The Prairie Club was one of only a few destinations to feature two different 18-hole championship golf courses within the top 100 courses.
Marked by expansive stretches of sand and natural bunkers, the Dunes offers views for miles, while the Pines meanders along the rim of the Snake River Canyon, providing stunning canyon views and challenging players with the firm stance of its towering Ponderosa pines.
Architect Tom Lehman and Chris Brands created the Dunes. One visitor last year stated, “I’ve played some of these courses in the top 100 and the Prairie Club rates higher than some in my list of favorite courses. One thing that probably doesn’t get enough recognition from course raters is how isolated the course feels. I don’t like when an entire course is lined by houses and people…When we played Dunes, we never saw another group the entire round and there were plenty of people out there. It felt like the whole course was ours for the day.”
The Pines was designed by Graham Marsh. He stated, “I have attempted to blend these two unique forms of golf into an experience that excites and challenges players through a collection of holes on each nine that move seamlessly through the many dramatic and varied landforms of the property. It is my dream that the course will be remembered as one having 18 distinct holes, each with its own character that seduces and lures players into returning for the sheer joy of the challenge and the experience.”
The Prairie Club is part of the McGowan Capital Group portfolio.
