Gene McGowan Receives Honorary Degree from SDSU

Eugene McGowan, Sr.

For those of you who haven’t had the pleasure of getting to know Gene McGowan, Sr., he has a very interesting and diverse life history. He is the Founder and CEO of McGowan Capital Group, a private equity and venture capital company located in Sioux Falls, SD.   He has excelled in the finance and business world, and has learned much from his life experiences.  It is hard to believe that this man, a Navy retiree, a man whose sole occupation for a number of years was playing the piano in entertainment establishments and a current finance expert, never completed college.

His experiences and accomplishments were recently reviewed by a number of people at South Dakota State University, to include the Board of Regents.  As a result, it was determined that Gene deserved, and received approval for, the award of a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Entrepreneurship and Music.

Presentation of Honorary Degree

On September 29, 2014, at a ceremony held at the Washington Pavillion, Gene McGowan was recognized and honored by Dr. David Chicoine, President of South Dakota State University, and members of the Board of Regents.  Quite an honor for such a humble man!  Especially after discovering that in the entire history of SDSU, he is only the fifth awardee of an honorary bachelor’s degree from this University!

Congratulation to Mr. Eugene McGowan, Sr., for his receipt of a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Entrepreneurship and Music!
